Ever wondered why Aloy keeps on talking to herself throughout your entire gameplay of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West? Read on to get some insight as to why she has to constantly narrate what she does as you play.

One thing has been consistent in the two Horizon games, and fans are a bit divided on how it actually affects their gameplay: 

Aloy's constant self-narration on her actions

Most gamers would want to their gameplay to be as immersive of an experience as it can be. Aloy's constant narration is seen as breaking the immersive experience that comes with gameplay.

While not necessarily a bad thing about the game, it is quite understandable why some people would be put off with having a character constantly disrupting the immersion a player would have as they go about and explore the world of Horizon. Most players see it as a way for the game to instruct players on what to do instead of letting the player explore on their own.

Although we cannot discredit and invalidate the feelings of some gamers towards Aloy's self-narration, we can, however, justify why she does what she does and why she needs to do it. 

Growing up, Aloy didn't have anyone but Rost, and perhaps the rare instances wherein she would buy from Karst the merchant, to talk to. This habit of her constantly talking to herself is not meant to serve as a guide for the player, but for Aloy herself.

Aloy's self narration is meant to give her a more 3-dimensional personality, in the same way we would "

" to ourselves whenever we think and decide on courses of action. 

Even after the events of the first Horizon game, by the start of the second game, Aloy is still just learning about the world around her.  Her self-narration is a way for players to connect with the fact that this is all new to her, as much as it is to them. 

Aloy isn't trying to be annoying with her constant talking, she's trying to make sense of a world that's so foreign to her and the rest of her world. For so long, the machines have been easy to understand as something people are to avoid, but Aloy's introspection, albeit aloud, allows here to form a deeper understanding as to why the machines are the way they are.
