When deciding to tame wolves, you will need to prepare thoroughly. For one, wolves may attack alone or in pairs or packs meaning they can take you down quite quickly as you freeze in the mountains.

Because of this, you'll need to prepare as much as you can!

Depending on how far into the game you've come, you may need Iron Armor at the bare minimum. Bring the highest level of armor you can attain and do the same for your weapons.

If you do not have access to a Wolf Fur Cape, you will take damage over time in the mountains. It will be difficult but not impossible to tame wolves without it.

You will need to consume as much Stamina increasing food and items as you can in order to outrun the wolves. If they give good boosts to health, even better!

You will need to tame these wolves and to do so they need a pen. Preferably, the pen should have a means for you to toss meat inside and keep you out of sight from the wolves for the most part. So a simple 5x5 should be good for one wolf.

Even better is to have 2 layers of walls to allow you to repair them as the wolves eventually break them. If you have access to the rock wall, this would be the best to use.

If you're lucky, wolves will be at the very edge of the biome. If you're not, they will be much deeper in the biome.

Keep potions handy and run near the edges, going deeper slowly. If you hear howling, you're near!

Note that you cannot stay too long without a Wolf Fur Cape and take damage over time. If you're getting to half health, leave immediately and heal before trying again.

The moment you have aggravated the wolves, run as fast as possible back towards the pen. They are likely to take a few bites out of you so have your potions ready and jump out of their range if you can. You will need to keep them close to follow out of the mountain biome.

With the wolves hot on your heels, dash into the pen and run in a circle if you can before running back out and closing the door. The wolves will begin destroying the walls so run as far as you can away.

By running away, you will no longer aggravate the wolves. Setup camp nearby and wait a few days. If the wolves are being tamed, you will see yellow hearts floating above them.

Occasionally feed the wolves with meat. They will not eat wolf meat so you cannot use any.

Once the amount of time has passed, you will have a tamed wolf! Having 2 fed wolves in a small space will also increase the chance of them breeding to produce more wolves.
